Beth Adams, 215-573-8224 Oral Health Fair and Table Clinic 2008May 8, 2008 On May 1, the Vernon J. Brightman Research Society, Penn Dental Medicine's student research organization, presented the 17th Annual Oral Health Fair and Table Clinic. Held in the School's Robert Schattner Center Henry Schein Atrium, the event highlights student research projects, and this year featured table presentations by 14 second- and third-year students. A team of faculty judges selected the winners with Heather Desh (D'10) taking top honors for her project, Muscle Load and its Effect on Apoptosis in Murine Masseter Muscle, with preceptor Dr. Elisabeth Barton, Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Ms. Desh will represent Penn Dental Medicine in the 2008 Student Clinician Research Program competition during 48th Annual American Dental Association (ADA)/DENTSPLY Meeting to be held in San Antonio, October 16-21. Other winners included Ho-Jung Cho (D'10), who received second place for Distinctions in Mechanical Signal Transduction in Masseter Muscles and the EDL Muscles, also supervised by Dr. Barton. Ms. Cho will represent the School at the 2008 Hinman meeting in Nashville, to be held October 31-November 2. Third place was awarded to Mansi Oza (D'09), for her project Dual Regulation of Mast Cell Function by TGF-b1, with preceptor Dr. Hyder Ali, Associate Professor of Pathology. The Oral Health Fair and Table Clinic continues a longstanding tradition of excellence in student research at Penn Dental Medicine. |
