The DMD Program
The four-year DMD program and
curriculum reflects Penn's commitment to both oral science and oral
health care. Beginning in the first year of study, basic
sciences and clinical experiences are closely linked in the curriculum.
Early involvement in practice settings helps students integrate classroom
instruction with the actual demands of patient care. The program is
built around six key components:
- Developing clinical skills in student-faculty teams.
- Building breadth through the Selectives Program, which allows
students to study areas that fall outside the core or compulsory
portion of the curriculum.
- Providing opportunities for students to take part in basic science
and clinical research.
- Putting care into action through community service.
- Refining professional skills through hospital externships.
- Expanding perspectives through international rotations.
