The Office of Faculty and Student Career Development

The Office of Faculty and Student Career Development at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine primarily supports faculty professional growth and maturation. Specifically, the office:

• Provides assistance to full-time junior standing faculty in matters relating to achievement of academic success and obtaining tenure and/or promotion through mentoring and guidance by senior faculty.

• Counsels and guides junior faculty members in the following: understanding their responsibilities and those of their mentors (Faculty Mentoring Guidelines); identifying members of their mentoring committee; establishing and meeting with the mentoring committee; fulfilling requirements for tenure and/or promotion review; and preparing applications for NIH career development and research grants

• Provides assistance to Department Chairs and senior staff in the process of helping junior faculty to build a successful academic career

• Ensures that the goals of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine mentoring program are fully implemented and achieved

In addition, the Office meets with dental students and postgraduate trainees about activities related to research careers.

University of Pennsylvania Office of the Associate Provost
The Associate Provost manages the academic personnel processes including recruitment, appointments, promotions, tenure cases, grievances, oversight of faculty policy changes, and administrative review of faculty policies. Additionally, the Office also maintains the Handbook for Faculty and Academic Administrators.
