Martin
S. Greenberg, DDS
Dr. Greenberg is Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Medicine, Associate Dean for Hospital and Extramural Affairs at Penn Dental Medicine, and Chief of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. His present major clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa and the management of facial pain syndromes and temporomandibular joint disorders. Dr. Greenberg's research studies have contributed to the understanding of the clinical manifestations of recurring herpes virus infections and the relationship between oral bacteria and serious life threatening infections in patients whose immune system is suppressed by disease, transplantation drugs or cancer chemotherapy. Dr. Greenberg is the senior editor and co-author of Burket's textbook of Oral Medicine, a standard text in the field, and editor of the Oral Medicine section of the Journal of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. He is a winner of the Samuel Charles Miller Award for contributions to the field of Oral Medicine and the Lindback Award. Dr. Greenberg is also a member and the recent past president of the American Board of Oral Medicine and OKU.
Sunday O. Akintoye, BDS, DDS, MS
Dr. Akintoye is Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine. He is a clinician-scientist with interest in basic and translational research. Current research is focused on orofacial bone marrow stromal stem cells, site-specific characteristics and therapeutic applications as a graft to bridge osseous defects in the maxillofacial region (see article). Dr. Akintoye is also interested in dental manifestations of metabolic bone diseases. He has focused on fibrous dysplasia and described the dental features of maxillo-mandibular fibrous dysplasia associated with McCune-Albright syndrome (see article). He is a recipient of several awards that include the Lester William Burket Research Award for Oral Medicine residents conferred by the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the Joseph and Josephine Rabinowitz Award for Research Excellence at the Penn Dental Medicine. Dr. Akintoye's research is supported by the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Lance Armstrong Foundation and University of Pennsylvania Research Foundation. Dr. Akintoye teaches in the Oral Diagnosis and Emergency Clinic and in the graduate programs of the Division of Advanced Dental Education.
Andres Pinto, DMD, MPH
Dr. Pinto is Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine-Clinician Educator and Director of the Oral Medicine/Medically Complex Patient Care Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. In addition, he is a member of the Division of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and a University Associate at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He received his DMD and a certificate in Oral Medicine from Penn Dental Medicine, a certificate in Clinical Research and an MPH from Penn Medicine, and joined the faculty in 2001. An active member of the Hispanic Dental Association, fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, Dr. Pinto maintains an intramural practice in the management of oral mucosal disease, orofacial pain, salivary dysfunction and dental care for medically complex patients. He was selected for the American Dental Association's Institute for Leadership in 2004, and was the recipient of the 2005 American Dental Education Association's Junior Faculty Award and the Provost's Faculty Award. Dr. Pinto's research interests include salivary gland disease, pediatric oral medicine, and the epidemiology of oral disease.
Thomas P. Sollecito, DMD
Dr. Sollecito is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and a Professor of Oral Medicine-Clinician Educator at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. He is also an Attending in Oral Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a Clinical Associate at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He graduated Villanova University where he received a B.S. in Biology, cum laude. He then completed his DMD degree program at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine where he graduated with honors. Formerly, he was the Director of the Oral Medicine Residency Program. He is currently a reviewer for the Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics Journal, and is also a reviewer for the Journal of the American Dental Association. He is a Fellow and Diplomate in Hospital Dentistry of Special Care in Dentistry Organization. He is also a member of OKU, the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is a Diplomate in Oral Medicine and he has authored numerous papers and chapters related to various topics in Oral Medicine including facial pain, mucosal disease, and treatment of medically complex dental patients.
Eric T. Stoopler, DMD
Dr. Stoopler is an Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine-Clinician Educator at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He is the Program Director for the Oral Medicine Residency Program and Director of the Oral Diagnosis/Emergency Care Clinics at the School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Stoopler's research interests include oral manifestations of multiple myeloma and he has presented his research both nationally and internationally. Dr. Stoopler has authored numerous articles on oral mucosal disease, facial pain, and treatment of medically complex dental patients and is a reviewer for several dental journals. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.
