Care Providers
At the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine clinics, all care is provided by dental students or residents, who work in teams under the close supervision of faculty group leaders.

The group leaders are responsible for ensuring the quality and continuity of care that is given to all the School's patients.

All group leaders are experienced, licensed dentists, who are dedicated full-time to treating patients and teaching clinical skills.

Location
The School of Dental Medicine Clinics are located at 240 South 40th Street, Philadelphia, PA (at the corner of 40th and Locust Streets). The New Patient Admissions and Registration Clinic entrance is on 40th Street. (directions to the School of Dental Medicine). A limited number of patients receive care at our neighborhood locations. A full range of general and specialty services are available through the teaching clinics of the School of Dental Medicine, including the following:

General Dentistry
Periodontics (gum disease treatment)
Hygiene (cleaning)
Pediatric Dentistry
Dentures
Implants
Crowns and Bridges
Oral Surgery
Endodontics (root canal treatment)
Orthodontics (braces)


What to Expect at Your First Visit
When you become a patient at the School of Dental Medicine Clinics, we do a complete review of your overall health to detemine your dental care needs. We will ask you to complete a medical history form and we will check your vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc.), perform a head and neck exam and an oral cancer screening, take a full set of dental x-rays, and conduct a dental screening. You should expect this initial appointment to last about 3 hours.

Following your initial visit, you will receive a call from your student-doctor, who will schedule an appointment with you to begin your dental care.

Hours of Operation
The School of Dental Medicine Clinics are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, September through June 30. During July and August, the clinics are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Some specialty clinics may have slightly different hours of operation.) Appointment hours for the New Patient Admissions and Registration Clinic are at 7:30 a.m.,
8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Fees
Initial registration visit: $35, plus an additional $55 for a full set of x-rays (not required if a recent set can be provided).

Fees for dental care depend upon the treatment required and will be discussed prior to treatment, with your assigned dental student, at a subsequent visit.

Insurance/Payment Information
Payment for services or proof of insurance coverage is required at the time of treatment. All major credit cards are accepted, as well as cash and personal checks. The School of Dental Medicine accepts a large number of insurance plans. For more information, contact 215-898-5856.

Making an Appointment
To make an appointment to become a patient of the School of Dental Medicine, call 215-898-8965 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

New patients can generally receive an appointment for their initial screening visit within six to eight weeks of calling.
